Head Coach: Anne Ottenbrite-Muylaert C.M.

Anne has been the Club's Head Coach since 2011. She is an experienced educator with a proven track record of program development and success at the Club, High School, CIS and NCAA levels.  She provides and ensures program vision, organization, student engagement and retention.

Anne has been involved with many swimming programs and has seen many levels of competition.  All have been rewarding and exciting, but being back in the Durham region and working with the Pickering Swim Club has been the most rewarding!  Watching the Pickering Swim Club grow into the club it has become has been heartwarming.  Watching swimmers grow to become amazing citizens is one of Anne's joys.  "If swimming had anything to do with it, we have achieved greatly."

Head Age Group Coach: Lisa Vitro

Lisa has recently returned to her competitive swimming roots in the role of coach having previously competed at the national level from the age of 14 with the Ajax Aquatic Club.

Lisa was a national medalist and finalist in her specialty backstroke.  She represented Canada on team tours along with her teammate Anne Ottenbrite in her swimming career.

She's excited with her new role as the Pickering Head Age Group Coach and Red Group Coach and looks forward to all the challenges of coaching her young athletes toward their goals and achievements in swimming, as well as mentoring the ideology of the "fit for life" lifestyle.

Assistant Coach: Hollie Smith

Hollie's love for swimming started with summer swimming lessons and quickly developed when joining the Pickering Swim Club in 2005. During her years swimming for PSC, she was taught and encouraged by talented coaches and continued to improve her times each year.   She made incredible friendships, learned valuable life lessons and developed her swimming skills and techniques.

In her last year with the Pickering Swim Club,  Hollie swam at the 2012 Olympic Trials in Montreal! She also coached FUNdamentals and DEV 2 during this time.

Upon graduating High School, Hollie received a scholarship to swim at University of Illinois. During her time as an D-I NCAA athlete, she continued to improve her skills, overcame injuries and eventually became the Captain during her Senior year in 2016.

Hollie graduated in May 2016 with a Bachelors of Arts & Science in Psychology and is currently continuing her studies by getting her Master's degree at Wilfred Laurier University.

For the 2017-2018 season, Hollie will be coaching Bronze and is extremely happy to be reunited with the Pickering Swim Club family!

Head Development Coach: Samantha Catania

Samantha appreciated swimming from a young age, completing her basic Red Cross swimming lessons. Soon after, she started swimming competitively with the Pickering Swim Club. She competed with PSC for 3 years, from 2009-2012, as well as swam at OFSAA for her high school St. Mary, from 2010-2014.

Since 2012, Samantha has remained heavily involved with swimming. She started working as a swimming instructor, for Swim Time Pickering. In this role, she gained valuable experience teaching basic swimming skills to young children, and has taught higher-level Bronze courses. At this time, Samantha became an assistant coach for various groups at PSC. In 2015, she became the full time coach for White, Dev B and Dev C groups, helping young athletes develop their techniques and achieve personal goals. In addition, Samantha began coaching for the Pickering Master Splashers, as she enjoys working with mature swimmers, delivering creative, yet challenging workouts.

The strong guidance that Samantha received from her mentor, Lea Bredschneider, both furthered her appreciation for the sport and taught her invaluable life lessons. In addition to Coach Lea B, Allison Laing has been a positive influence and model coach for Samantha. She is confident and excited for her groups this season, as she takes on more responsibility as the Head Development Coach.

For the 2017-2018 season, Sam will be coaching White, Dev A, B, and C, as well as overseeing the Fundamentals pre-competitive program.

Assistant Coach: Alison Russell

Alison started her swimming career with the Pickering Swim Club in 2001 at the age of 7.  At the age of 13, in her first 800 freestyle, she achieved qualifying times for Jr. and Sr. Provincials, Age Group Nationals and Easterns.  She continued to qualify in the 200, 400, and 1500 Freestyle at those levels as well. Alison currently holds 2 individual records at the club and 1 relay record.  The records are in the 8 & U age group for the 200 Backstroke and the 17-25 age group for the 1500 Freestyle and the 200 Medley Relay.

After graduating from the club in 2012, Alison moved to Hamilton for the Honours Commerce Program at McMaster University.  While she was there, she swam competitively with the Varsity Swim Team for 3 years and assisted the women’s team in placing top 3 in the Ontario University Association (OUA).  Throughout her years of swimming with the team, she volunteered at High School Swim Meets to help improve the swimmers' strokes.  She also volunteered at Adult Triathlon Clinics to help improve their freestyle techniques for the open water portion.

In the 2015-2016 academic year, her love of swimming continued as she became Assistant Coach and Team Manager for the McMaster Varsity Swim Team.  During her fifth and final year at University, she worked with the Hamilton Aquatic Club, coaching the Novice group.  Alison has also been involved in coaching at the McMaster Maurader Swim Camps coaching age group swimmers for the past 3 years.  Alison is currently completing her NCCP Swimming 101 course to help improve her coaching.

Alison is very excited to come back to her home club and coach the Blue group.  She looks forward to reuniting with the Pickering families.
